Our dental hygienists hear a lot of questions from patients. And, as experts in their field, they are full of answers! In today’s blog post, we’re answering some of the frequently asked questions our team at Growing Smiles Pediatric and Family Dentistry hears.
1. Do I Have to Floss?
It’s funny how nobody ever asks us if they have to brush their teeth. Flossing really is just as important, and we can tell when you haven’t been keeping up with it. To avoid gum disease and other frustrating issues, be sure to floss once a day.
2. Are X-Rays Safe?
While X-Rays do expose you to some radiation, the amount is minimal and has been studied and proven safe. X-rays are an important tool that most dentists use to identify dental issues that need treating, so we urge you to get them when the dentist recommends it.
3. How Can I Get My Teeth Whiter?
The most reliable way to whiten your teeth is by investing in professional whitening with your dentist. The results don’t even compare to the kits sold at your drugstore. Whatever you do, stay away from DIY techniques aimed at whitening your teeth naturally. Most of these methods will strip your enamel, or potentially something worse!
4. Why Are My Teeth So Sensitive?
Sensitivity is a common problem that patients will experience when consuming something hot or cold. It’s often a result of thinned tooth enamel, but may also be happening in tandem with gum recession, bruxism, a chipped or broken tooth, or teeth whitening.
5. How Often Should I Visit the Dentist?
Visiting the dentist every six months for a routine cleaning and exam is key to your dental wellness. Don’t have yours scheduled? Request to book on our website, it’s quick and easy!
